Toast & Tonic: East Village Style, Comes to BKC, Mumbai

East Village Style, the international restaurant and bar, a part of the Olive group of restaurants, has opened at BKC, Mumbai. Local inspirations, new age dining and a bar like no other come together in an experience that is effortlessly chic and refreshingly minimal. It is, in a way, an expression of what made the East Village (New York City), the quintessentially bohemian neighborhood of the world. Though the menu at Toast & Tonic offers a variety of culinary cultures it seeks to celebrate India’s bio-diversity -working with local producers to ensure that Indian products are championed in a non-traditional way.

“In a city as wired as New York, the East Village is an unexpected pocket of beauty. Toast & Tonic, too, brings a much-needed laidback vibe to Mumbai. So here’s a place to come and discover the joys of a fuss-free, roll-up-your-sleeves-and-have-a-great-time kind of experience.” Said AD Singh, Managing Director, Olive group of restaurants.

Toast & Tonic embraces the best of fresh, seasonal, local and regional produce, with provenance at the fore. The presence of a continually changing menu driven by the season is just one example of how Toast & Tonic dispenses with traditional dining norms in its quest to deliver a completely fresh and innovative experience.  Innovation is the key and the menu is bursting with influences, stretched as wide as French, Asian, Italian, American, and even Latin American.  Favourites that feature on the menu are Crisp Soft Shell Crab from Bhimavaram with a Singapore-style chilli peanut sauce served with steamed sesame crusted mantous; the Soft Eggs & Fresh Andouille Sausage on Sourdough Toast with green mustard spread, smoked Bandel cheese and gin mustard hollandaise, Naga Chilli Chicken Wingswith a side of Som Tam salad and T&T Chicken Liver Paté with Amrut Two Indies infused with smoky notes, pear compote and toast. If you are still hungry order a Mushroom and Asparagus Risotto with gobindobhog or a hearty Vegetable Gumbo or a Baked Eggplant Involtinistuffed with house-made ricotta served with tomato butter, charred tomato sofrito and drumstick leaf persillade. Non-vegetarian Big Plates include Pan Seared Salmon with butter sauce and dill oil with caramelised mushrooms, with fennel seed and pepper, sweet onions, asparagus and sautéed amaranth leaves; Brick Chicken with a crisp skin served with a sweet potato purée and vegetable stew; Spinach and Ricotta-stuffed Chicken Roulade with glazed carrots, potato galette with local chèvre and chives, turmeric and carrot purée and smoked chicken jus.

Even in a city as varied, as adventurous as Mumbai, you will be hard-pressed to find a bar like the one at Toast & Tonic. It’s relaxed and unique and offers spirits and beers from around the world, a selection of wines plus an intriguing array of cocktails where ingredients are treated with reverence. Like the kitchen, the bar also explores the possibilities that lie hidden in organic fruits and flowers while going a step further by making its own shrubs and tonics. Our Signature G&Ts include The Herbalist, Gin-tleman’s Tonic, British Raj, East India Company, Ms. Rose & Col. Cucumber and Vanillin. The philosophy of creativity, innovation and sustainability naturally extends to the Restaurant’s design elements. The overall ambience is the perfect location to break normal dining conventions with a refreshing lack of fuss or pretension.
